The 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD: Built for Heavy Duty
Engine and Transmission
The standard engine on the Sierra 2500 is a 6.6L V8 gas engine that delivers 401 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 464 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. For increased power, there’s an available 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine that generates 470 horsepower at 2800 rpm and 975 lb.-ft. of torque at 1600 rpm.
Both of the Sierra 2500’s engines are paired with an electronically controlled Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. This transmission comes with Tow/Haul mode to reduce shift cycling for enhanced control and better cooling during the towing process.
Trailering and Hauling
The 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel turns your Sierra 2500 into a trailering powerhouse, providing a maximum towing capacity of 21,870 pounds. With the GMC trailering package, your truck comes with a trailer hitch, hitch platform, electrical harness, receiver hitch, connectors, and Hitch Guidance. Hitch Guidance provides an in-cabin display of your trailer and hitch during the attachment process and while driving.
The Sierra 2500 is also a great pickup for hauling because it has twelve cargo tie-downs that are rated at 500 pounds per corner. Accessing your cargo is easier than ever with the CornerStep rear bumper, which provides added stability with hollow, textured spaces to insert your foot when stepping onto the bumper. The SLT and higher Sierra 2500 trims come with a GMC MultiPro tailgate that has six different configurations for hauling, loading, and unloading cargo.
Interior Elements
Six passengers can fit inside the Sierra 2500, with a 40/20/40 split front bench and a 60/40 split rear bench. You’ll find a small under-seat storage compartment for tools and equipment when you lift the seat bottoms on the front bench. The rear bench can be folded up on either side to create even more storage space on your Sierra’s floor.
The 2025 Sierra comes with a 7-inch GMC Infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. For music options, there’s standard AM/FM radio and available SiriusXM satellite radio.
Safety Packages
The new Sierra 2500 comes with OnStar Basics, which includes built-in voice assistance, remote commands, GPS navigation with live traffic updates, and Automatic Crash Response. The Sierra also has its own exclusive collision-avoidance package, Sierra HD Pro Safety. Sierra HD Pro Safety features Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, and Automatic Emergency Braking.
